Down To Earth

Earthing, also known as grounding, refers to contact with the Earth's surface electrons by walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems, some of them patented, that transfer the energy from the ground into the body.

Most likely, you've done something outside, barefoot. While this action of just simply being outside barefoot gets you close to Earthing, it is the true intention that completes the act.

I became familiar with the idea of Earthing through Ben Greenfield, speaker and author of the New York Times Bestseller “Beyond Training: Mastering Endurance, Health and Life.” He is a huge Earthing enthusiast and discusses the benefits on numerous podcasts, my particular favorite that he discusses Earthing on is The Skinny Confidential.

This technique goes to show that it doesn't take money to reach your best inner being through "self-care." There are three simple steps to successful Earthing: 1. Find a quiet place outside 2. Barefoot, stamp your feet into the ground and set an intention 3. Focus in on your intention and let your mind block out the noise for at least 5 minutes (I usually like to do 10 minutes if I have the time.)

So, you may be reading this thinking - "WTF." To be completely honest, when I first heard of this phenomenon,"Earthing," I was confused and thought it was just another self-care fad, but once you try it and really focus on it, you feel it. Connecting to the earth in general is important, but when you put intention behind it and allow your mind to be free, that makes all the difference. Along with just overall feeling good, Earthing presents a plethora of health benefits --

+ Neutralizes Free Radicals

+ Improves Sleep and Stress

+ Improves Immunity (which we can all use right now!)

+ Lowers Inflammation and Increases Blood Flow
